I cooked for rmc28, sphyg, and cjwatson last night. I upgraded tomato sauce from a jar with onions, mushrooms, garlic, sweetcorn, and courgette. We ate it with pasta spirals and some co-op organic French wine. A nice civilized evening.
Try pasta, sliced sausages (vegetarian ones do just as well), can of tomatoes, tomato puree, garlic (or garlic puree), onions, peppers, mixed herbs and paprika. I rarely use packet/jar sauces these days, but do have trouble finding inspiration that doesn't include tomatoes, onions and peppers.
