I did a talk this afternoon mostly about withdrawing insecure access to Hermes. Surprisingly few questions...

I did the slides using Eric Meyer's S5 which seems quite fun, though it suffers from the browser compatibility farce that plagues the web. (see also...)

It's certainly less offensive than powerpoint - I used it recently for a presentation on RT albeit without the effort of a house style...

Yes, the house style was a fair amount of work. I couldn't use our web people's standard house style because (I think) the <div> wrapper screwed up the formatting. (This also matters wrt my idea for adding xhtml formatting to my experimental atom feeds so they look nice in a browser by themselves.)

RT is another thing I'm interested in. We're going to have to change the email routing arrangements for postmaster@ soon, so we might as well do a proper job of it and add RT to the mix. IWBNI it became a pilot for our other contact addresses, webmaster@ and help-desk@.

Yeah, that's a good way of getting your foot in the door - we're using it for some of our internal staff support stuff, and some people want to standardise on 1 departmental ticketing system (our institution did an library/computing service merge a few years ago). A badly configured remedy setup doesn't really appeal compared to the wonder that is RT...

It was a good seminar, but apart from a few pointers (secure.hermes, etc) I think most college and departmental COs are more or less aware of the implications and settings, hence the (low) volume of questions.

Your presentation slides were well designed, and it all went without a glitch (well, except for the projector turning off every now and then) :-)

Hey, Tony, thanks for the link and glad you liked using S5! (And sorry you ran afoul of the browser compatibility farce.) I like your blend of text and pictures, which is something I'm moving toward in my own presentations. I've started to see some really interesting uses of S5, some of which I plan to post about soon.

Oh, and a minor nit: my last name is actually "Meyer".

There's full XHTML/CSS-P implementation of the Uni house style at http://www.jsss.group.cam.ac.uk/ if that's of interest which has been in use for a year or so.
